OPINION

Sunday best

If I am going out on a Saturday night, a rare occurence, for 8.30pm then I can get out of my chair at 8.00pm have a shave and a shower and grab something to wear and out the door.

Going out for a ride always takes longer. Always a bit of making sure I take precautions and have tools, bars, pump etc and then what to wear! Will it cover the likely weather conditions, does it all match up, no clashing of logos's and colours. Helmet has to match as well.

Last weekend was typical, started off with a recent purchase of an Ibex merino base layer I wanted to try. Was going to wear a Rapha top and Ibex armwarmers and El Fito 3/4's. Then thought it may be a bit cold and went all Pearl Izumi for l/s top, shell and socks and Rapha 3/4s. Blue and white helmet was the only choice.

Was thinking about from Friday night and again in the morning before the ride. Off to the pub, just make sure it passes the sniff test.....

I've been wearing the same cycling kit for about two years (even washed it once or twice!), and before that the majority of the winter stuff served for hill walking (leggings, baselayers and a fleece that magically doubles for a jersey).

Considering something new for the warmer weather though, and I feel my tastes run to the gaudy (not a problem in cycling couture apparently). Can anyone recommend any especially garish togs?

a bit more clash and psychedelia is what I'm after. Always quite liked those TT romper suits for grown-ups, but ah'm guessing that the wearing of one on my ambling sunday ride might make for an awful lot of hilarity on the part of any onlookers.

 Three choices for lurid:

1. retro

2 team

3. shop team - lots of these guys still keep their end up with suitably lurid confections (see Jimmythecuckoo's blog and challenge on the subject.

In the meantime… here's one from Milram for you to consider … Wiggle sell 'em

Just thought of a fourth choice - ride an event (preferably in France) that gives out a jersey to every finisher. That's pretty much a banker.

looks like it was designed by the offspring of Haribo and the Dairylea Cow, it's currently top of the list of contenders. I reckon I might get a jersey out of the 'etape in the summer, but there's a chance it might have to be awarded posthumously: especially if I resort to the "brandy and explosifs" training regime. This is another contender, but I dunno if I'm that much of a computer geek...... (*groans)
