If you're looking for a challenging pre-season event to warm up those winter legs and test your mettle on 6 tough climbs, then look no further than The Rawlinson Bracket, a sportive starting from The Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, on 23rd February 2014.
The ride is a tribute to Nick Rawlinson, a local lad who loved a bit of suffering and a tough climb or two. The event marks the anniversary of his sudden passing, aged 30, when his heart stopped from a suspected arrhythmic defect in February 2012.
We have picked a challenging 'top bracket' route that's very much in the spirit of the kind of rides Nick loved; 85km full of his favourite Warwickshire hills and training routes. We like to think of it as a mini 'Liege-Bastogne-Liege'
There's also a flatter, scenic 45km 'bottom bracket' for those don't have the appetite for those hills on a frosty February morning!
All proceeds from the event will be donated to SADS UK (http://sadsuk.org.uk), a charity set up to raise awareness of sudden arrhythmic death syndrome, and cardiac risk which can affect young people through to middle age.
