Fixing Mavic Death Squeal

Morning all,

I've got a set of 2015 Askiums on my winter bike which today started making the well publisised 'Mavic Death Squeal' noise. I'm led to believe its a bushing in the freehub that needs lubing, but does anyone know a) which bushing, and b) a workflow/diagram of how to get to it? I'm a fairly competent home mechanic, but I've not worked much on wheels. However, I'd rather not spend £50 taking it to a shop for them to lube it.

Cheers!

Hi,

I suspect you're talking about the FTSL mechanism. If so, yes it's the busing and lubing it. It might as well have worn out. I used to have Aksiums and I used to buy bushings on eBay (there used to be a dude selling them reasonably cheap). This would solve the problem for the next 3000-4000km and then again.

I remember there used to be a bearing upgrade option which apparently solved the problem from a different angle, but ye keep buying those plastic bushes.

Worn out busing - you'll notice it if you try and move the cassette laterally and see some visible movements.

I followed this when I did mine:

I am certainly not a competent mechanic & even I could do it so I'm sure you'll be fine.
