Gravel Bike Question - Lauf or Planet X?

Evening all,

I'm in the market for a gravel bike that will scratch my itch to ride during the winter, act as a commuter in the summer (30 miles there and back) through london and towpaths and be workable for a few days bikepacking in the summer. Quite the wishlist...

Obviously availability atm is the driving factor but ive narrowed it down to the following:

Lauf Anywhere Weekend Warrior - £2280 with delivery or;

(Planet X?) HOLDSWORTH MYSTIQUE SRAM FORCE 1 GRAVEL BIKE - £1799.

They are pretty similar in terms of specs but just the small difference of £500. Only thing is, i can find no reviews of the Holdsworth/Planet x, and if it looks too good to be true it usually is.

Does anyone have any experience either way and help me out from either:

Wasting £500 or buying cheap and buying twice.

Thanks

Hi, I bought a Planet X London road as a winter come gravel bike and I couldn’t be happier with it, I think it rides better than my all singing and all dancing carbon bike with carbon hoops, they now do a gravel version as well....unlike the other commenters I found the service pretty shoddy with my delivery date continually being pushed out with no communication.. so in my experience, great bikes and value for money but questionable service

I can't comment specifically on the Holdsworth option, however I recently went through a similar quandry when buying a gravel bike. As a self confessed brand snob when it comes to bikes I was worried that the Planet X Tempest Titanium I ordered in the end might be a disappointment given the total lack of reviews available.

I shouldn't have been! It's blown me away and left me hugely impressed, especially as it's hard to find a Ti frame for the same cost as the complete Tempest! Absolutely brilliant and only wish I'd saved myself thousands over the years instead of being such a snob!!

Timbo, thats great to hear - i am actually considering getting the Titus Goldrush now instead.

Titanium frame for £2300....decisions.

The Tempest is out of stock now, why did you choose that over the Titus?

SImply the £400 saving and couple of hundred grams lighter frameset. Planet X customer service was as usual faultless and it was delivered in 3 days - unlike most other options of circa 6 months!

I've gone all metallic in my old age otherwise would probably have gone for the plastic Holdsworth! Really wanted either high end steel or Ti. I did consider the Titus but the similar lack of reviews meant i couldn't justify the extra cost. I'm really impressed, no toe overlap, setup is really good (i optioned carbon seatpin) - really smooth, yet surprisingly stiff, feels reactive yet planted on the front end. Feels agile yet stable. No problems performing track stands straight out the box. Single track feels like an old school hard tail steel MTB - lovely 1

I cant offer an opinion on either bike but I have bought 2 Planet X road frames and both have been very good, no problems with either of them.  Dont know if that helps, probably not.
