Rapha to host four-day celebration of cycling in Yorkshire next July

Rapha Tempest coincides with Tour de France Grand Départ

Rapha will host a festival celebrating road cycling in Yorkshire next July – a long weekend of riding, music, films and food to coincide with the start of the Tour de France

Rapha Tempest will take place from 3 July until 6 July in the grounds of Broughton Hall Estate near Skipton in North Yorkshire, where Rapha have held their Super Cross event. It sits close to the route of stage one of the Tour, which runs from Leeds to Harrogate on Saturday 5 July, and also within a few miles of the course for stage two, which takes place the following day.

Rapha say, “Rapha Tempest is a complete festival of road cycling, with rides and racing, bespoke on-site camping, visual displays, music, food and drink, workshops, films, children’s rides and plenty of partying. There will be guided rides in the days and evenings, a mini Super Cross (cyclocross), secure 24-hour bike parking, a rider recovery zone, and an on-site Rapha Cycle Club. For entertainment there will be live music and DJs, an open-air cinema with film screenings, and various scheduled workshops and talks, along with partner stalls and installations in the Festival Village.

“Bringing your road bike is encouraged and there will be bike parking and a rider recovery zone where you can drop your bike off to be washed after riding in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Big screens will be set up for anyone wishing to watch the great race.

Stage one will pass three miles from the site and stage two will come within nine miles.

Tickets are available online from £85 for the weekend. Four tiers of camping are available, from basic bring-your-own tent to luxury camping. There will also be a separate family camping area.

Ridiculous. Booked a campsite that is on the race route for Etape1. Short Drive to view stage2 and hopefully on Duty in Cambridge for stage 3... And that all in for a family of 5 is going to cost me less than Raphas money making scam! 103

Well despite the usual 'anti Rapha feeling' I think that the basic camping is pretty good value for whats on offer; and before you ask, I sand wooden floors for a living and live in Cornwall.
Just booked it and looking forward to a festival style atmosphere with like minded folk.

Has anyone managed to fit a GoPro camera to a pigeon ready for the race? We might be able to snap some shots of the Rapha entertainment at the same time.

I'm afraid that all the pigeons near the route have been reserved. There are reports that puy lentils and red wine jus may also be in short supply in July.

Black pudding supply remains unaffected.

I'm all for it regardless of where you are from or your background.

People are going to come and watch the tour andthey are going have to stay somewhere so why not with like minded people.

Me - I'll probably be a bit further south on day 2 as the route is within riding distance of home.

No. Damn them and their disposable incomes, spending money on poncey coffee and pains au chocolat in the local cafes. I bet they dont have a ferret or a flat cap between them.

City boys and their carbon exotica. Yorkshire doesn't need this.

To be fair to them, it's not cheap, but neither is camping in the UK anyway.

I think the luxury option is a bit rich, but the others seem pretty decent value for money, especially seeing as you are so ruddy close to the Tour route.

good idea, and good on them I say

Not much different to the luxury camping options at Harewood house really.

Which in turn are not much different to the luxury camping options at various music festivals.

It's definitely not for me as terms like "Glamping" and the braying monstrosities these things attract make me want to puke out a lung but it's justifiably comparable.

Why do they always give things really pretentious names?

Rapha Festival of Road Cycling would suffice. Instead it has to be a euphemistic name that only those 'in the know' understand.

Festival organised by Rapha at Broughton Hall which is owned by the 'Tempest' family.

I think 'Simon Timothy Jones' name dropping 'Simon' Mottram tells you all you need to know. I love Rapha. I like Simon too - although I've met him just the once. Do I want to hang out with 300+ wannabes called Rupert and Ben on a campsite, comparing overpriced bikes and swapping boasts about obscure cols? I'm actually from Yorkshire so we'll take your money you soft southern effetes - but join in? I'd rather slam my knob repeatedly in the car door.

Rupert and Ben are most welcome where I live, if you are reading this folks, as long as you don't move my deck chair which I placed on the roadside last winter and check on regularly to make sure nobody has nicked my spot.
