Bradford cycling group Crank It Up is opening another branch of its bicycle recycling project Cycle re Cycle. As the name suggests the successful initiative recycles old bicycles and parts given by the public, or from Bradford Council’s waste refuse site in Lawkholme Lane, Keighley.
The bikes are recycled by volunteers and are then sold at a low cost to help people on low incomes take up cycling. To date they have saved in excess of 300 bikes from being scrapped.
The new workshop at the Bradford Resource Centre, in Chapel Street, Bradford, is the second branch of Cycle re Cycle to open after the first opened in Halifax.
And they will not only recycle bikes but also hold bicycle maintenance and repair sessions, which will be open to anyone, but aimed particularly at parents who may now know how to maintain their children’s bikes. The group also plans to hold maintenance and repair sessions for young people so they know the importance of looking after their bike and how to do so.
Regular cyclists will also be able to rent a fully equipped workstand at the workshops for £4 an hour, which includes tools, grease and advice if needed.
The workshops open on Wednesday and Thursdays from 6.30-8.30pm. To donate a bike or for more information telephone (01274) 779003.
Crank it Up are a voluntary project who try to provide cycling for all people of all abilities. They provide cycling sessions and training for all types and levels of cyclist. If you would like to find out more visit www.crank-it-up.org.uk.
