November may have been ushered in by unseasonably warm temperatures in many parts of the country last weekend, but we’ve been plunged back into autumnal weather since then – just in time for the CX Sportive season.
The season kicks off with the Salisbury Saxon CX, now in its fourth edition, which takes place next Sunday 9 November, and places are still available.
Mixing a variety of surfaces such as country roads with woodland tracks, organisers describe the format as providing “a varied, well paced and rideable experience that is a refreshing autumn/winter alternative to straight road or MTB riding.”
As a result, the course is said to be suitable for all kinds of bike – “ CX, hardtail MTB, lightweight full-susser, 29er, hybrid, whatever!”
Starting and finishing at Salisbury Race Course, Sunday’s event takes in the Chalke Valley to the west of the historic cathedral city, and includes some tough climbs on the way to Shaftesbury, with route options of 40, 60 and 80km available.
Places are still available and include full route marking, GPS files, electronic timing, feed station support and a free CNP energy mix for your ticket price, and there is a fully catered cafeteria at the start and finish location.
More details, including how to enter, can be found here, and there’s an in-depth overview of the 2014/15 season plus first-hand experience of what it’s like to ride a CX Sportive, in our article here.
