We told you so: Shimano's RS80 semi-deep wheel unveiled. Now with pic!

It doesn't look too much like our mockup though...

Like we said over a week ago, Shimano are launching a new semi-deep RS80 wheel that uses the rim technology of the excellent Dura Ace WH-7850 wheel and an Ultegra rim to bring semi deep performance to the masses. Well, more people.

This time they've properly released it though, with a picture and everything. So we can consign our rather poor mockup from a week back to the scrapbook of history. Here's the press release we got today:

Shimano introduces a 50mm deep profile carbon-aluminum composite clincher wheel set with model name WH-RS80-C50. It combines an aerodynamic rim profile and excellent rigidity with the convenience of clincher tire compatibility for everyday riding.

This wheel set features an identical rim technology as DURA-ACE WH-7850-C50-CL, in combination with a set of affordable – but highly reliable - RS (ULTEGRA grade) hubs. These hubs have been developed using SHIMANO’s proven cup and cone bearings that are well appreciated for their great durability and adjustability. WH-RS80-C50 features 16 double butted, bladed, stainless steel spokes in the front and 20 in the rear wheel. Compatible with 8, 9 and 10-speed SHIMANO cassettes. Weight: 1750 gr.

The perfect product for all those riders out there, searching for a deep profile carbon clincher wheel set at an affordable price!

So there you go. Now we know what the graphics will be like, and exactly how much Shimano say the RS80's will weigh. We're waiting for a word on what that "affordable price" is, and we'll update the story when we know. And, of course, we'll badger the nice people at Shimano for a set... TT season soon!

Agree, it is nice looking. May be tempted to bang a set on the felt ar4. Hope the price isnt too painful.

that is a smart looking wheel, wonder how they'll compare in price to Planet X and American Classic's offerings

Yours looked much better. I reckon they changed the design at the last minute to avoid having to pay licensing fees on your unique spoke lacing pattern.
