Videos: Cycling on the cobbles at Tour de France, plus team staff celebrate Tony Martin's win

On-bike and in-car footage from Stage 4 as race hits the pavé of Paris-Roubaix

Yesterday’s Stage 4 of the Tour de France took the peloton over some of the cobbles used in Paris Roubaix – and Velon, the joint venture between a number of top-tier teams, once again had on-bike cameras to capture some of the drama.

Shot from the bike of Simon Geschke, the video shows the moment riders including Dan Martin of Cannondale-Garmin and BMC Racing’s Samuel Sanchez crashed on a corner, and also features riders having a pee stop early on … quite why that’s in, we don’t know.

The stage was won by Etixx-Quick Step’s Tony Martin, who attacked 3km from the finish to ride into the yellow jersey.

Runner-up in the Stage 1 time trial then pipped to the race lead on each of the following two days as first Fabian Cancellara then Chris Froome took bonus seconds on the line, the German’s win sparked celebrations among his team management and staff, as shown in this video.

Simon joined road.cc as news editor in 2009 and is now the site’s community editor, acting as a link between the team producing the content and our readers. A law and languages graduate, published translator and former retail analyst, he has reported on issues as diverse as cycling-related court cases, anti-doping investigations, the latest developments in the bike industry and the sport’s biggest races. Now back in London full-time after 15 years living in Oxford and Cambridge, he loves cycling along the Thames but misses having his former riding buddy, Elodie the miniature schnauzer, in the basket in front of him.

Hate to be 'The Guy' too but some of those cyclists were riding one handed, passing bottles to each other, pushing between cars and going far too fast through suburban streets. It's just not safe. 29

Oh wow... I hate to be "That Guy" but surely driving a) without seat-belts, b) with a phone in hand watching a video, c) using a remote control and d) generally like a fool, is not really that safe?

I'm amazed there aren't more incidents with support cars like what happened Flanders this year!

I must say though, the on-bike footage is fantastic! Let's see more of that on TV coverage please!
