Ivan Basso gets all-clear after testicular cancer treatment

Tinkoff-Saxo rider was diagnosed with disease during Tour de France in July

Tinkoff-Saxo say that Ivan Basso has been given the all-clear by doctors following his treatment for testicular cancer in July.

The UCI WorldTour team announced what they said was "fabulous news" on Twitter yesterday evening.

Two-time Giro d’Italia winner Basso had been diagnosed with testicular cancer after experiencing discomfort in the saddle during the Tour de France in July following a crash on Stage 5 of the race.

He immediately left the race and was operated on at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan the following day, where his left testicle was removed.

The 37-year-old, who has one more year to run on his contract with Tinkoff-Saxo, has not raced since abandoning the Tour after the first rest day in Pau where his condition was diagnosed.

He is back in the saddle though – and last month tweeted a picture of himself leading a group ride up Box Hill in Surrey.
