Four elite cyclists injured in Australian road race (+ video)

Dozens of riders went down after a touch of wheels at the Tour of the Goldfields

Four elite cyclists have been seriously injured in the Tour of the Goldfields race in Australia in a crash that took out dozens of riders.

One rider in her 30s suffered hip and shoulder injuries while three others, in their 20s and 30s, suffered head injuries and concussion, an ambulance spokesman said. All are in a stable condition.

The collision, which was caught on camera by local news crews, involved dozens of riders just 200m from the finish line, after wheels touched at speed.

Tayla Evans told reporters: "Everyone was fighting for wheels, it was really messy and I think there was touching of wheels sort of near the front [of the pack]... unfortunately that brought two of our girls down," Evans told reporters.
