Video: Sir Chris Hoy tricks London commuters in trackstand face-off

Film featuring six-time Olympic champion promotes Longest Lap at Revolution Series

A couple of London bicycle commuters trackstanding at traffic lights got the surprise of their lives when they found themselves in a race with six time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy.

The stunt was arranged to promote the Revolution Series, which comes to Lee Valley VeloPark this weekend and which includes the Longest Lap race in which riders have to hold a trackstand until they are giving the order to go.

“I can’t believe what just happened at the lights there, “reflected one of the cyclists afterwards. “Smoked by Chris Hoy.”

Head here for information, including how to buy tickets, for this weekend’s Revolution Series and for the remaining rounds in Glasgow and Manchester.

let's say anyone who has spent any of their time working in the bike industry in London will recognise the faces of these "commuters" doing the track stands 3

Didn't the box van run a red light there?

Too staged. If there was a bike box there then you could accept that bikes would congregate there, but it's just a pedestrian crossing.

I can only imagine the loathing and self-hatred the hired crowd of cheerers must have after that.

I would say it was all staged, but I would hope the guy at the end wasn't staged, "muppets doing track stands"

Probably not, seen him doing the same thing at the lights in Taiwan during factory visits, then using the quickest scooters as a daft or derny bike.

As shown, it looks a little staged.  I'm sure those are real commuters, but I bet they went and found a few volunteers that morning rather than just pranking them at the lights.  I've never seen more than one or two people trying to trackstand at once in London.
