Cheshire Cat and Tour of the Peak to return in 2017

Two North-West sportives will return to the calendar in 2017 after Velo29-Altura made a move to acquire all of the previous organiser’s trademarks and assets. The Cheshire Cat and the Tour of the Peak were cancelled this year after Kilo 2 Go moved to voluntary liquidation in April.

Velo29-Altura stepped in earlier this month and have said they will resurrect some of Kilo 2 Go’s larger events.

The plan is to run the Cheshire Cat in the original March date and the Tour of the Peak in May. Other events were also acquired as part of the package, but no decision has yet been made on whether they will return. Velo29-Altura has said it is unlikely to bring back less well supported ones.

All of Kilo 2 Go’s events were cancelled when the firm ceased trading and under current insolvency legislation, participants were not entitled to a refund. However, any rider who entered the 2016 Cheshire Cat or Tour of the Peak will be able to transfer their entry to the 2017 event.

Velo29 Event Director Richard Williamson said: “We want to be able to offer some compensation to riders who already entered the events which we are continuing to promote. These are great well supported events and we want to get them back to the 3,000 rider sell out of a few years ago. We’ll be getting in touch with entrants shortly on their free place in next year’s event.”
