Jole Rider Night Baton Relay a goer for 2009

We'll be there... will you?...

We've just heard from Jole Rider that their 12 hour Night Baton Relay is a definite goer for 2009. The inaugural event last year was pretty much the first thing we did here at road.cc, and we'll certainly be showing up for another crack in July.

Jole Rider (www.jole1000.org) runs the Bikes4Africa scheme which sends out refurbished bikes from the UK to African secondary schools. African students often have to walk as much as ten miles to get to school, and the bikes can make a huge difference. Jole Rider have already sent out over 2,500 bikes and are planning to deliver the same amount again in the next 18 months.

The 12hr relay is a big fundraiser for them, last year bringing in over £11,000 and enabling them to ship out over 1,000 bikes. This year's event is set to be larger, but will remain at Hullavington airfield near Chippenham. The mile-long circuit is likely to be extended to handle the larger numbers of riders but most of the things that made last year's event such fun – hot food and drinks all night, a big bonfire, a smashing breakfast in the morning and a fantastic friendly atmosphere – will be back.

Teams of up to five can take part, though you can do it solo if you want. The flyer and entry form are attached below. So, who's up for it?
