100 Greatest Cycling Climbs launches new app and eight-volume box set

Another 100 hills throughout Great Britain for you to track and tackle in new app

Simon Warren has updated the 100 Climbs smartphone app to include the climbs from his second book, Another 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs. The extra climbs are available for £2.99 as an in-app purchase.

The new app, once updated on your smartphone, will add the climbs to the lists and maps with which users of the existing version will be familiar, and also now links to VeloViewer for even more in-depth analysis of each climb.

The app is available on both iTunes and Google Play.

The app update comes ahead of the publication next month of an eight-volume box set showcasing more than 500 climbs throughout Great Britain.

Scotland, Wales and Yorkshire each have dedicated volumes, with the remaining five covering regions within England – the Midlands, south-east, south-west, north-east and north-west.

As with Warren’s previous books, they contain original photography, key statistics and graphics for each of the 545 climbs, and the author’s own description and opinion of each ascent.

Published by Frances Lincoln on 5 October, the box set comprises 1,312 pages over the eight books.

Or, get an OS map out, have a look at some contour lines that are close together in various parts of the country, plot a route that includes it.

knocking these off is I suppose something for people to do but they don't make a ride. Plot some routes in areas that look attractive/interesting and ride them, if you happen to include some difficult climbs and that's what you're after, that's a bonus.

Driving hundreds if not thousands of miles just so you can do one or two difficult climbs is not my idea of cycling frankly, each to their own I guess.

I've found these books have helped me discover some amazing roads across the UK, from the Lakes and Devon, to Wales and Scotland and more. True, I've not just visited to climb a single hill but have planned routes that visit the hills. Hard work but rewarding.

This is actually an update to the existing app ( as you will notice from the image above )

The app will offer an in app purchase for the 'Another 100 climbs'.

The update is available now on iOS and as I speak the android version is being tested and will be available soon.

Prehaps the author of the article would like to update it?

I refuse to pay money to be reminded of all the climbs I can no longer manage.

The individual books are a little underwhelming for the price they are. They're pretty skinny things without a huge amount of information in them.

Likewise the apps. I'd probably pay a fiver for an app with the 500 climbs from all of the books on it but they seem determined to stop feed them when presumably it wouldn't be that difficult to produce a comprehensive app.
