Near Miss of the Day 223: Six incidents filmed on one ride

Sometimes in our Near Miss of the Day series, we venture outside the UK – and today, it’s Auckland in New Zealand.

The video (which is a bit over-exposed, but you can still see what’s going on) was filmed earlier this month and submitted by road.cc reader Dave, who said he is a keen follower of the feature.

He told us: “The thing is I expect at least one incident like this on every ride I do ... In particular last Saturday's ride was a doozy.

"I have edited the highlights of a 2 hour ride into one video for easy viewing. The first incident was less than 5 minutes from home, some young guys turned left in front of me. They were on the wrong side of the side road for quite a while after turning at speed.

"The second incident was some young guys again trying to scare me. Note how close to the kerb they were after passing me.

"The third was a close pass while I was passing a parked car and another car was coming the other way.

"The fourth was another left turn incident.

"The fifth was when a Prius was nearly tee-boned at the bottom of a short hill. The young lady in the final car had to squeeze past to get in front even when there was no room.

"The sixth – and last – you can't really see. The white 4WD decided to pull into my lane at the lights as I was riding past.

You think you have bad drivers in the UK?” he added. “Try Auckland!”

Over the years road.cc has reported on literally hundreds of close passes and near misses involving badly driven vehicles from every corner of the country – so many, in fact, that we’ve decided to turn the phenomenon into a regular feature on the site. One day hopefully we will run out of close passes and near misses to report on, but until that happy day arrives, Near Miss of the Day will keep rolling on.
