Video: Peter Sagan hops his way up a flight of steps on Mallorca on his bike

Former world champ takes a 'shortcut' - but he's got a long way to go to match Vittorio Brumotti's achievements...

Peter Sagan has posted a video to Facebook showing him hopping up a staircase in Mallorca on his bike – but he’s got a long way to go to emulate the achievements of his friend, the trials ace Vittorio Brumotti who in 2015 set a world record for the most steps climbed on a road bike.

Brumotti regularly attended training camps as an honorary member of the Tinkoff team when Sagan was there, with the pair appearing together in several videos.

In November 2015, the Italian climbed the 1,200 steps of Dubai’s Burj Al Arab in 50 minutes to set that particular record – three years after climbing the 4,000 steps of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, on a mountain bike.

We’re not convinced of Sagan’s assertion that he was taking a short-cut – it’s a shame he didn’t send one of his team-mates off down the road to see which one reached the top first.

Thee jersey Sagan is wearing is that of Slovak national champion which he’ll be sporting this season – at least when not leading stage races or classifications within them – after three years in the rainbow bands of world champion, which will be sported next year by Movistar’s Alejandro Valverde.

I think I've worked out why he didn't win at cyclocross.

He looked like he wished he hadn't started that. Impressive though.
