Driver gave cyclist lift after knocking him off bike - then threw him out of van

Incident happened in Edinburgh last week - police appeal for witnesses

A cyclist from Edinburgh who was knocked him off his bike was given a lift by the driver of the van that hit him – only to be forcibly ejected from the vehicle a few streets away.

The collision happened on the morning of Tuesday 29 January on Leith Walk, close to the junction with Annandale Street, reports Edinburgh Live.

The cyclist, Pete Johnson, says that the motorist persuaded him to get into the vehicle, apparently with the intention of assisting him.

But when they reached East Claremont Street, the driver told Mr Johnson to get out of the van – and when he declined to do so, dragged him out by his leg.

One of his friends discovered him, and wrote on Facebook: “A friend of mine was knocked off his bike this morning on Leith Walk (around 11am). I found him on East Claremont Street.

"The driver had bundled him into his van (possibly silver) and dumped him in a different location. If by chance you witnessed – please can you contact me?"

Mr Johnson needed to have stitches put in a wound after the incident, and has given a witness statement to the police.

However, no CCTV footage is available and officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen what happened or who has information to contact them on 101.
