Routes unveiled for June’s National Road Championships in Norfolk

There will also be a 100-mile sportive along the same route as men's road race...

The routes have been unveiled today for June's HSBC UK National Road Championships, which will form part of the wider Great British Cycling Festival taking place the same weekend and which includes rides for all ages and abilities.

The men’s and women’s time trials will take place on Thursday 27 June, with the road races following on Sunday 30 June, and a 100-mile sportive taking place on the same day.

British Cycling commercial director, Jonathan Rigby, said: “This is a hugely exciting time for cycling in this country, with the recent announcement that Glasgow will host the first ever combined world championships in 2023, and the forthcoming UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire.

“The HSBC UK National Road Championships represent the pinnacle of our domestic road calendar, so we’re delighted that the Great British Cycling Festival will offer so many opportunities for the people of Norfolk and beyond to get involved in our fantastic sport.”

The men’s elite time trial, won last year by Geraint Thomas, will cover 25.9 miles, while the elite women’s event, where Hannah Barnes is the defending champion, takes in 17 miles, and both start and finish on the Sandringham Estate.

The road races, meanwhile, will begin and end in the centre of Norwich, with the men’s race held over 125, 2 miles and the women’s over 83.5 miles, both heading into he north of the county and coastal towns including Wells next the Sea and Cromer.

“We’re delighted to be able to confirm these routes,” Rigby added. “The list of previous winners of the road race or time trial titles – including the likes of Laura Kenny, Mark Cavendish, Lizzie Deignan and Geraint Thomas – gives some indication of the prestige of these titles, and to see them contested in Norfolk’s truly stunning surroundings will be a wonderful spectacle.

The British Cycling Challenge 100 sportive, on Sunday 30 June, will follow the same route as the men’s race.

Tom Caldwell, director of event organiser Golazo, commented: “The announcement of the route for the road races and associated British Cycling Challenge 100 sportive is a great milestone for the Great British Cycling Festival, and really whets the appetite for what promises to be a fantastic weekend of cycling.

“We share with British Cycling – as well as all partner organisations and the festival’s official sponsor, the University of East Anglia – a real determination to ensure that the top-level competition and great athletes we have in this country serve to inspire everyone to get more active through cycling, and the festival will be a great representation of that.”

It worth highlighting the sportive, which was on closed roads,is now on open roads and you'll be leaving after the pro race starts so won't get to see any of the races

Plus the route map for the 100mile sportive looks spookily similar to the 83.5mile womens road race...

Simon there is no more-info link.

Excellent news on location and UEA support. I am no way fit enough for a 100 I'll just be spectating. The women's road race ride of 84 is my current max sportive distance.
