Police hunt van driver who pushed cyclist into railings

Police Scotland are hunting a van driver who pushed a cyclist into railings following what is described as a “verbal altercation.”

The incident happened in Penicuik, 18 miles south of Edinburgh, at 0930 on Saturday 22 June between the Mauricewood Road junction and a Tesco supermarket.

In an appeal for witnesses, police say that the driver of a white transit van got out of his vehicle and pushed the 31-year-old male cyclist into railings, causing injuries to his ribs.

Another motorist came to the cyclist’s assistance afterwards.

Detective Sergeant Jordan Sharp of Dalkeith CID said: "The cyclist has suffered some painful injuries as a result of this incident and we are keen to trace the van driver who was involved.

"As part of this inquiry, we are keen to hear from the individuals who came to the aid of the victim so we can take statements from them and get more information as to the full circumstances of the assault.

"Similarly, we'd also urge any other members of the public who saw what happened, or who may have relevant dash-cam footage, to also contact police immediately."
