Jumbo-Visma's Sepp Kuss wins Vuelta Stage 15

American high-fives crowd on way to victory while team leader Primoz Roglic maintains his lead

Sepp Kuss of Jumbo-Visma has won Stage 15 of the Vuelta a Espana at the Santuario del Acebo, the American high-fiving the crowd as he took victory from the break by around 40 seconds from Katusha-Alpecin’s Ruben Guerrero, with Tao Geoghegan Hart of Ineos third.

Kuss’s team leader, Primoz Roglic, followed an attack by Alejandro Valverde on the final climb and crossed the line with the world champion on his wheel to maintain his overall lead on the Movistar rider of 1 minute 52 seconds.

Stage winner Sepp Kuss

This is amazing to believe. The Vuelta is incredible for us at the moment. This is an incredible day. We were attentive from the beginning and at the front. Some of the the teams sent dangerous guys up to the front, so I decided to go with them. The gap was big enough to go for the stage win.

Otherwise I was going to help Primoz on the final climb. I had no strategy on the final climb, I just went full gas, I celebrated the final kilometre with the fans. The passion they have is fantastic and that is why cycling is such a big sport. On bad days they are there for you, they shout you to the top. They always support, that is why I love cycling.

Race leader Primoz Roglic

We are all celebrating this race, it is an incredible day for us again. But we need to be focussed until Madrid.
