Cyclist who pursued attacker is rewarded

Public-spirited rider helped put mugger behind bars

A cyclist who witnessed the mugging of a teenager and discreetly tailed the attacker back to a house before alerting the police has been rewarded for her part in putting the thug behind bars.

The Sentinel reports that  Amie Fernehough, 22, saw the attack on a 14-year old by Ruben Webb, 26, who pushed, shoved and verbally assaulted his victim in Stoke-on-Trent back in August 2009.

While her friend called the police Amie checked on the teenager before following Webb at a distance until he entered a property. She was then able to relay his whereabouts to police who had arrived at the scene of the attack.

Webb was jailed for 21 months for robbery last year. Amie was yesterday presented with £250 by the High Sheriff of Staffordshire Ian Dudson as a reward for her public spiritedness.

Describing the incident, Amie said: "I said to my friend, you stay with him and I will follow. I followed him to the address and the police came and arrested him.

"I thought he should not be able to get away with it. The victim was only 14, it was disgusting."

the daily hate will pick it up but point out she could easily have jumped some red lights while following him.
