Fantasy Cycling: Prizes announced!

Big prizes from Evans Cycles make our Fantasy game more appealing than ever...

Not signed up for the road.cc & Evans Cycles Fantasy Cycling game yet? Well then, let us tempt you with news of some fantastic prizes on offer throughout the season. We're able to announce today what the prizes for three Grand Tours will be, as well as the overall season prize. And we'll tease you a bit more about what you'll get for being king of the classics and overall purist...

Let's recap for anyone new: after the success of our Fantasy Tour de France and Fantasy Vuelta games last year we've teamed up with Evans Cycles to offer you the opportunity to get involved with a whole season of fantasy cycling. Our fantasy season starts with the Milan - San Remo on March 19 and runs all the way to the World champs*, and along the way there will be separate competitions for the three Grand Tours, with the Tour de France being the pinnacle. A whole season of racing to get involved in, and some big prizes to play for! Here's what's up for grabs...

Tour de France: A Trek Madone 5.2 bike worth £2,799!

Depending on how the season pans out the Tour de France could well be won on a bike not so dissimilar to this. The Trek Madone 5.2 features a TCT Carbon frame and a full Shimano Ultegra build with Bontrager Race wheels. This is a bike that's fully dialled for fast riding and worth the best part of three grand: why would you not want a shot at winning it?

Giro D'Italia: A Fuji Altamira 3.0 bike worth £1,729!

The Fuji Altamira is the bike ridden by the Geox-TMC pro team. Okay, they get the superfly LTD version with an integrated seat mast and Di2 transmission, but the Altamira 3.0 is a fantastic bike in its own right, with a C-4 carbon frame, Shimano 105 groupset and Oval wheelset. It would certainly make a great weapon for tackling those steep Italian climbs that the Giro is famed for, especially in this, the hilliest year in living memory...

Vuelta a España: A BMC Street Racer SR02 worth £1,199!

Another fantastic bike on offer, this time from Swiss experts BMC who have shown with the Street Racer range that high performance isn't just the preserve of Carbon. The Street Racer SR02 features a hydroformed, triple butted Aluminium frame mated with a Carbon fork and like the Altamira you get 105 running gear for a sub-20lb build.

Season overall: a £1,000 Evans Cycles shopping spree!

If you're playing the long game then now's the time to start: you have two weeks until the Pros roll into Milan for the first scoring race. Keep it up throughout the season and if you're top of the pile come the season finale, you'll be the lucky recipient of a £1,000 shopping spree at Evans. Bikes, kit, accessories: buy whatever you fancy. You'll have earned it!

Already that's a prize fund of over £6,700, and there is lots more to come. The purists' league will have a prize too, we can't announce what it is but if you think of a bike in its purest form, you'll be close to the mark. And there's the King of the Classics too: we're in discussions at the moment to land a spectacular prize for that one, and once we've tied it down we'll be shouting about it here on the site. Plus there'll be runners up prizes for each competition, and of course spot prizes throughout the year.

Have we piqued your interest? Thought so. So head over to the Fantasy Cycling game – you'll need to be registered on the site to set up your team – and get picking! You can set up a league to play your friends, and you can join us in the play the road.cc team league, #6493. Happy fantasy-ing!

*or possibly the Giro di Lombardia since there seems to be a lot of love for that one out there...
