Team Garmin-Slipstream has announced it will be sponsored by POM Wonderful, the largest U.S. producer of the Wonderful variety pomegranates and maker of 100% pomegranate juice, for 2010.
The announcement comes on the back of the American team's excellent performance in the Tour de France, where it was second overall in the team classification, with riders Bradley Wiggins and Christian Vande Velde both finishing in the top ten of the general classification. The team is currently also in 10th position in the official UCI World Rankings.
Garmin-Slipstream is currently taking part in the Vuelta, its third Grand Tour of the season, and after yesterday's Stage 3, Tyler Farrar sits second in the points and fifth in the general classifications, while the team is in third place in the team classification. Later this month, a separate squad, including Wiggins, will race in the Tour of Britain.
As part of the sponsorship, POM Wonderful will provide the team's riders with the antioxidant power of POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice and POMx, the antioxidant super-extract.
The partnership will also see POM Wonderful and Team Garmin-Slipstream pursue ground-breaking sports physiology research on the health benefits of POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice as it pertains to recovery, combating oxidative stress and inflammation in an intense athletic context.
In that £1000 exactly scenario, beginners should probably be made aware that pedals will be extra.
