Video: Specialized follows Omega Pharma-Quick Step on an epic edition of Milan-San Remo

Includes post-race thoughts of Mark Cavendish on day the peloton battled each other and the elements

Just thinking about Sunday’s Milan-San Remo still gives us the shivers, so heaven alone knows what it must have been like for the riders. Here’s a nice video from Specialized that follows Omega Pharma-Quick Step through the day, including post-race thoughts from Mark Cavendish who battled on to secure a top-ten finish.

Enrico Gasparotto of one of the brand’s other sponsored teams, Astana, demonstrates a surprisingly colloquial command of English, but we’re afraid it’s ‘nul points’ for whoever translated the comments of one of the day’s main protagonists, Sylvain Chavanel, for the subtitles, with ‘Stannard’ somehow morphing into ‘Astana.’

Simon joined road.cc as news editor in 2009 and is now the site’s community editor, acting as a link between the team producing the content and our readers. A law and languages graduate, published translator and former retail analyst, he has reported on issues as diverse as cycling-related court cases, anti-doping investigations, the latest developments in the bike industry and the sport’s biggest races. Now back in London full-time after 15 years living in Oxford and Cambridge, he loves cycling along the Thames but misses having his former riding buddy, Elodie the miniature schnauzer, in the basket in front of him.

Why do the wheels sound so clicky? Have they got cards in their spokes?

And was Cav wearing a wetsuit?

the clicking is the freehub. in my experience the more expensive the wheels the louder the clicking. i have some campag wheels which are quite noisy, and some wheels with a dt swiss hub which are ear splitting. carbon frames also seem to amplify the noise.

The weather looked more Belgian than Italian.

A classic in more ways than one.

Feeling slightly guilty I wimped out of riding outdoors due to the rain to watch this race!

I watched it on Eurosport, which is generally pretty good. They do have an annoying habit of postponing the coverage for (say) tennis or snooker, but they're less likely to do this now that the bigger races are coming up.
