Cyclist ends up in river after mobility scooter hit-and-run

Ipswich rider ends up in the Orwell after collision with elderly lady

If you're having a bad day, then spare a though for this guy. An Ipswich cyclist suffered a cut to his back and ended up in the river after being hit by a mobility scooter in Ipswich, reports ITV Anglia.

The collision happened at 3pm today on Ranelagh Road. The driver of the scooter is described as "a woman, aged between 70 to 80-years-old, with ‘mousey’ coloured hair, driving a red scooter with thick wheels" - she failed to stop at the scene. It's not reported whether both parties were on the pavement or whether, as seems more likely, they were on the river path on the opposite side of the Orwell.

Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact PC David Wright from Ipswich on the 101 emergency number.

Dave is a founding father of road.cc, having previously worked on Cycling Plus and What Mountain Bike magazines back in the day. He also writes about e-bikes for our sister publication ebiketips. He's won three mountain bike bog snorkelling World Championships, and races at the back of the third cats.

They're a menace those mobility scooter riders. On A roads and pavements. No lights or helmets AND they don't pay road tax...

...Talking of scooters. Monkey World in Dorset has a fleet of mobility scooters for visitors who can't or won't walk. I watched a rather large young woman wrestling to park one outside the gift shop. "F**k it!" She said, squeezed her girth from behind the handlebars and ambled quite quickly into the shop in search of crisps. 13

To be fair this was pre Olympics so I'm sure she's been inspired to take up Iron Man's since.

Maybe the old girl will boast about it on Twitter...not that any action would be pursued if she confessed to a non-stop RTA in a public forum.

Hopefully he's not too badly bashed up and hasn't suffered water damage to any electronics he may have had and I do feel sympathy for the fella but I can't be the only person thinking this would have been pretty funny to witness?
