Lewens Lane, Wimborne, via Google Street ViewMan cycling with family hit in face with bottle by passer-by
A man cycling with his family in a Dorset town sustained lacerations to his face when a passer-by hit him with a bottle.
The incident happened at 9.30pm on Saturday 6 August in Wimborne, say Dorset Police, who are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Officers say that the man, who lives locally and is aged in his 40s, was cycling on Lewens Lane with his family on the evening in question when they passed a large group of people at a point where the pavement narrows.
The victim was said to have been assaulted by a number of men from that group, one of whom hit him with a bottle.
The group made off towards Leigh Road after a member of the public intervened.
Police Constable Kelly Cole of Dorset Police said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened to please come forward.
“I would also ask motorists to please check their dashcam for any relevant footage as this incident occurred on a busy road.”

No cyclists will use the pavement on this stretch of road, there is a short cycle lane in the road. I would presume the thugs were walking on the pavement and attacked the cyclist simply because they were a cyclist. An example of hate crime that isn't classified as a hate crime.
There is a camera mounted on a pole at the roundabout that may have captured the event.

You know, proper camera footage from a trusted source, not like that unreliable rubbish those lying, constantly complaining cyclists send us that we put straight in the bin.
Cycling on the pavement?
Not condoning violence but the editorial states that the incident happened where the pavement narrows.
We all know how some people take umbrage when cyclists, even those with family, are on the pavement.
Some people take offence at cyclists on the pavement. (Even - as may be the case here - it's "we already squeezed non- motorists to the edges, our streets are too narrow after providing for motorists, fight it out amongst yourselves" - AKA shared space).
Some people take offence at others cycling on the carriageway. Sometimes even if in a cycle lane.
Some people just take offence to others. This might be one of those.
Street View shows signage that has it as a shared use path on at least one side of the road. Detail from police report doesn't specify exactly where it happened, however.
Eh? Not sure how you got that out of it, the report states that the conflict came "when they passed a large group of people at a point where the pavement narrows." My assumption was that because it was a large group of people they spilled out onto the road and someone then got cross with the family of cyclists coming through on the road. Either of us might be right but it certainly isn't unequivocally stated that the family were on the pavement.
Either way, these bastards set on a man cycling with his family and smashed a bottle in his face, so fingers crossed they're caught and properly punished.

Just like me you've made an assumption, doesn't mean it's right.
I'm not suggesting that I'm right either, however what I do agree with is that they should be brought to justice and punished accordingly.

While I can only concur with your observation that Shapps the Sh*t's comments will increase friction between cyclists and other people, this happened a couple of weeks ago. More likely the result of the non-UK domiciled billionaire owned, cycle-hating media.
Much of which has spent the past 48 hours bashing cyclists even more than usual.
