Lazer Waymaker 1 Way1 Glasses

A good pair of classic-looking glasses for casual cycling

At every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

The Lazer Waymaker 1 Way1 glasses are perfect for casual riding around town, and look good on and off the bike. They're not designed for head-down, fast-as-you-can sprinting or long endurance rides, but if you're cycling to the shops (or walking!), these do the job well at a great price.

I'm one of those people who think glasses are a must whenever you're riding, whatever the time of year. They're not just for keeping the sun out – and even in winter the early sunsets low in the sky mean they can be essential – they also protect your eyes from bits of grit, debris, rain, climate-defying insects and the like.

Not everyone is a long-distance cyclist needing high-tech wraparound eye protection made from the latest lightest materials. But if you use your bike for a short commute or to nip along to a pub or cafe, the Waymaker 1 Way1 could be just what you need.

As you can see from the photos, the frames are quite square looking with curved corners, and they sit comfortably on your face with no slippage. The lenses are big enough to offer all-round eye protection, with enough coverage to keep sunlight out of even the corner of your eye.

Lazer Waymaker 1 WAY1 Glasses Inside

The glasses offer 100% UVA and UVB protection, so no nasty rays will get into your eyes. The lenses offer clear vision and even on duller days can help sharpen things  up.

They come in a variety of frame and lens choices to suit your riding and fashion needs, from more flamboyant silver or camouflage frames through to matt black, and various lenses. I'm rather taken with our test pair, 'Gloss Black' with a grey lens, and can see these being my go-to choice when I meet friends or go to the shops, winter, summer or in between.

Lazer Waymaker 1 WAY1 Glasses Front

Lazer describes the Waymaker 1 Way1 as 'lightweight leisure' glasses, and though they don't boast the same technical spec as fancy framed/advanced-lens options costing loads more, they will keep sun, grit and rain out of your eyes while looking good, on and off the bike.

Tell us what the product is for, and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it?

The glasses are aimed at urban cyclists rather than long-distance roadies.

Lazer says: "The Waymaker series are the podium eyewear from Lazer. The more fashionable style make them less suiting for long rides, but perfect for city riding."
