I've been testing the Lusso Stripes Short Sleeve Ladies Jersey for a month now in our so-called summer, which has been a mixed bag of weather. This has meant I've worn it in all sort of conditions, with and without arm warmers, gilet and baselayer. In this mix of rain and sun, the jersey has performed very well.
It's a slim-fitting, summer-weight jersey, which Lusso describes as a 'performance summer technical garment'. It's made with a fabric called TX2, which apparently helps with airflow over the body and shoulders – not something I can verify, I'm afraid, though it's certainly a comfortable fit. I wore the medium – my usual size, so a good fit for someone who normally wears a size 12/medium.
What I can back up are Lusso's claims for the fabric being very breathable, the jersey performing very well in warm conditions, wicking moisture away well; I never felt like I was overheating during a ride. It also has 50+ UV ray protection for those sunny days, and with the fabric being cited as 'ideal for between 15C to 35C' that's a very welcome quality.
If you do find yourself overheating, the jersey has a full zip for extra ventilation within reason, and it has a fabric garage at the top so no irritation against your neck.
At the rear there are the usual three deep pockets offering plenty enough space for essentials, plus a little zipped one for keys, which is always appreciated.
The sleeves are a fashionably longer 'pro' length and fit closely around the arm, with gripper to hold them in place. I found the gripper comfortable with my average arm size – not too tight and not too loose. Under the armpit area the fabric is more breathable, helping with temperature regulation.
There's gripper at the back of the hem which does a good job of keeping the jersey in place; I had no problems with it riding up, and nothing rubbed or became uncomfortable during rides of one hour to four.
In terms of value, £65 is pretty good for a performance jersey. It's well made, with technical fabrics, and made in the UK, which all helps to justify the price. Rapha's technical Souplesse jerseys are well over the £100 mark, and Alé's PRR Arcobaleno is £90, but a cheaper one to consider would be dhb's £55 Aeron Speed – Jack tested the men's version, and the women's is currently on sale for £34.99.
The Lusso Stripes jersey has been my go-to summer top, even on cooler days worn with a baselayer and lightweight arm warmers. I like the bold design, and overall I'd say it's a well-made, well-priced choice.
