At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Motorex Easy Clean is a powerful degreaser that works quickly and effectively to cut through the oily dirt that has accumulated on your drivetrain, making the whole process painless and straightforward.

As with most degreasers, you just spray the Easy Clean on to the chain and/or the other components that you're cleaning, leave it a while to do its magic, then clean it off. The can comes with a straw that you can attach to the nozzle to direct the spray exactly where you need it.

I've sometimes worked it in with a brush, depending on how dirty the chain is. Even with the grottiest chain, I've only had to give it a couple of sprays to get the whole thing shiny rather than doing it a bunch of times like you sometimes need to with less powerful degreaser.

Once you've cleaned the chain, you give it another spray and allow it to dry, then re-lube the cleaned parts and you're good to go.

It works really, really well. Plus, Motorex say that Easy Clean is non-corrosive and biodegradable although you should avoid contact with your skin.

Verdict

Strong degreaser that's easy to direct and biodegradable

road.cc test report

Make and model: Motorex Easy Clean X-Treme Chain Degreaser

Size tested: 500ml

Tell us what the product is for, and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it?

Motore say, "Biodegradable chain degreaser: highly active cleaner for all drivetrain components, especially effective on oily and greasy dirt. Motorex Easy Clean penetrates even the smallest gaps, dries without leaving a residue and is non-corrosive."

Everyone says that their degreaser is powerful; in this case I'd say it's true. It does make a boring job quick and straightforward.

It's an aerosol can so there's not a great deal to get right/wrong here, but the straw/hose on the can is handy for getting the spray exactly where you want it.
