Planet X launches new Carnac Kronus TT helmet - will debut in Rio Olympics

New wind tunnel tested helmet for time trial launched

Planet X has unveiled its new Carnac Kronus time trial and triathlon helmet, which it says has been tested in a wind tunnel and will debut in the Rio Olympics with Gosia Wojtyra, a Polish track cyclist sponsored by the British company.

Carnac will stir memories with older cyclists. It was an iconic French shoe manufacturer that was snapped up by Planet X a few years ago, keeping the historic brand going.

The new Kronus helmet follows the current trend for a stubby helmet with no tail. It has an integrated visor and venting is provided by six front-facing slits. The visor is held in place by magnets so it can be swapped easily and quickly, and offers a wide field of view. There will be three mirrored visor options to choose from.

A fully adjustable cradle and retention system provide a wide range of height and width adjustment to suit different head sizes and shapes. Internal pads have an anti-bacterial treatment and can be removed for washing. The Kronus weighs a claimed 420g.

Planet X says the helmet has been wind tunnel tested at the National Wind Tunnel Facility in Glasgow, though it doesn’t provide any of the data from that test, and it’s also worked with its sponsored athletes to put the Kronus through its paces.

The Kronus is available now in two sizes (54-58cm and 58-62cm) and costs £99.99. Check it out at

Probably worth  a punt at that price. Helmets do test differently on different people and positions so its not always worth believing the wind tunnel results anyway....

I cannot find any test data regarding this helmet!

PlanetX have them reduced and I'm wondering if it is worth a punt?

is there a road test coming especially versus the bambino?

One could test a parachute in a wind tunnel...
