Vitus has added a disc brake version to its Vitesse Evo carbon-fibre road bike range, and it has recently arrived at road.cc for review. Built up with a Shimano Ultegra groupset and hydraulic disc brakes, it’s price at £1,999.99 (£1,899.99 on Chain Reaction Cycles at the moment). This is a bike that’s designed with speed/performance in mind.
Last year we rode the rim brake version of the Vitesse Evo and we were impressed.
“For this kind of money it accelerates and climbs very well, providing a good return on the effort you invest,” we said. “You can dart about from wheel to wheel on the hills without the need to overcome much inertia. It’s an action-loving character.”
That rim brake version is raced by the An Post-Chain Reaction UCI Continental team so it's UCI accredited.
Like the rim brake model, the Vitesse Evo Disc has a frame and fork that are made from T700 unidirectional carbon-fibre. The tapered head tube (1 1/8in at the top, 1 1/2in at the bottom) and BB386EVO bottom bracket are designed to add stiffness, and the same goes for the almost square-section down tube and the oversized chainstays. On the other hand, the slim seatstays and 27.2mm carbon-fibre seatpost are designed to bring comfort to the ride.
The Vitesse Evo Disc is built to exactly the same geometry as the rim brake version. We have the 56cm model here with a 560mm effective top tube, a 155mm head tube and 73/73.5° frame angles. The stack (the vertical distance from the centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the head tube) is 563mm and the reach (the horizontal distance between those points) is 393mm. That’s certainly a race/performance-focused setup, as you'd expect.
The disc brake model is available in just one build. The groupset is principally Shimano’s second tier Ultegra with RS685 shifters and RS805 flat mount hydraulic disc brakes. The chainset is Ultegra which means that you get a 24mm axle rather than an oversized version.
The wheels are FSA/Vision’s Team 30 alloy clinchers, the 30 referring to the rim depth in millimetres. They’re held in place by thru axles front and rear. The handlebar and stem are alloy options from FSA too.
The Vitus Vitesse Evo bikes are available in seven different sizes from 49cm all the way up to 62cm. That’s a genuine 62cm, by the way, rather than just a 60cm bike with an extended seat tube. Our 56cm review bike weighs 8.65kg (19.1lb).
Vitus is aiming this bike at people who want a fast, responsive ride and the assurance of hydraulic braking. We're taking it on the road now to find out if that's what it delivers. Stay tuned for a review on road.cc soon.
