Following the launch last month of the new Atalaya gravel bike, titanium specialists J.Guillem has unveiled the brand new Formentor Disc, a bike designed for fast riding and racing.
The Formentor has been the company’s flagship high-performance race bike since launch last year, named after one of the best roads on the island of Majorca where Jan-Willem Sintnicolaas, the owner of the brand and previously the founder at Van Nicholas, resides.
The new model is based on the regular rim brake Formentor but it has now added a disc brake option to the range. The frame and new fork use 12mm thru-axles with flat mount disc brakes, and all cables and brake hoses are routed internally to maintain the clean appearance.

Both the tapered head tube and bottom brackets have been cast in titanium, and there are very neat entry and exit ports for the gear cables and brake hose. It’s also Di2 compatible.
The frame features hydroformed 3AL/2.5V titanium tubes that have been “aero-optimised” and geometry leans towards the aggressive race bike end of the spectrum. Frame weight is a claimed 1,500g and there are six sizes from 49 to 60cm.
“For the frame that epitomises everything we know about making a road bike go very, very fast, a version that enables you to stop very, very quickly and safely. Our out-and-out, built-for-racing thoroughbred - the Formentor - is now available with a disc brake option,” explains the company.
The new bike will be available from July onwards and will cost $2,799 for the frame. Complete bikes will start from $4,999 with a Shimano Ultegra groupset and DT Swiss R23 Spline wheels. There are customisation options available through the company’s website https://jguillem.com/bike/formentor-disc
We'll be getting our hands on a test bike soon so stay tuned for a full review of this new model.
