Maxxis has used the OVO Energy Tour of Britain to launch its brand new high-end road racing tyre, the High Road.
Maxxis is hugely popular in the mountain bike world but less so in the road cycling market, but this is something it is hoping to turnaround, and a lot is riding on this new premium tyre.
The High Road will replace the current Padrone TR at the top of the company’s road tyre range and is hailed as the fastest dual-compound tread pattern the company has produced so far.
It’s a clincher tyre - bucking the trend for pro teams racing tubular tyres - using a new silica compound in the tread which offers a claimed 16% improvement in rolling resistance as well as upping wet weather grip by 23%.
- 29 of the best road cycling tyres
To ward off flats the new High Road tyre features a K2 puncture protection belt consisting of a thin layer of Kevlar composite material developed by Maxxis.
“We’re proud to be launching our High Road tyre at one of the biggest events on the European road cycling calendar,” commented Stephen Robinson, Maxxis UK bicycle brand manager. “It’s a great feeling to have Maxxis technology being used by a UCI Continental team, demonstrating the quality and constant improvements we are making to our road cycling range.”
“We’ve been working with Canyon Eisberg for some time now, with the team enjoying many victories on our tyres, including the recent 10th edition of the OVO Energy Tour Series. To be officially launching the High Road with some of the best riders in the country represents the next level in our relationship, and we can’t wait to cheer the guys on from the sidelines at the OVO Energy Tour of Britain.”
The new High Road tyre isn’t available to buy yet, the company is aiming for an early 2019 release date. That means we have no more details at this stage, we don’t know what widths it’ll be offered in, how much it weighs or most importantly how much it costs.
