Five cool things coming soon from Topeak, Hunt, Trakke, Catlike and Sportful

Some of our top picks from the road.cc test pile this week, with reviews coming soon...

It might be bucketing it down out there, but we're still putting mileage in as we would when the sun is shining to get through our latest pile of bikes and gear flying through the office for testing. Someone's gotta do it!

Catlike Kilauea road helmet

£219.99

Catlike Kilauea Helmet.jpg

Catlike's latest road racing lid retains an aerodynamic shape but has their trademark large vents to strike a decent balance between cooling and speed. Protection is strengthened by an internal mesh made of Aramid and Graphene, and the design will certainly make you stand out from the crowd. Is it any good though? Stu Kerton's review is coming soon.

Topeak Ninja Master Toolbox T8

£27.99

Topeak Ninja Toolbox T8 - on bike detail.jpg

Built to fit neatly under a Topeak Ninja bottlecage, this clever little contraption comes equipped with a multi tool that has 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5 and 6mm allen keys, a T25 Torx, and a Phillips, all in a light case weighing just 40g. The case is totally weatherproof, and apart from your puncture protection gear it looks like a handy solution that frees up space in your jersey pockets for edible things. Is it built to last? The test report will be in later this month.

Hunt 35 Carbon Gravel X-Wide wheelset

£899

Hunt 35 Carbon Gravel Disc X-Wide - rim bed.jpg

Weighing in at 1548g a pair, as is alluded to in the name these carbon disc brake wheels are 35mm deep and intended to be seriously fast and tough across gravel and mixed terrain. They also have a super wide 30mm external rim depth so you can run fatter rubber, and they're tubeless-ready as standard nowadays with Hunt's H-Lock bead set that they say makes tyre mounting easier. They come ready to go with rim tape, valves, a spoke key and spare spokes, and at this price point we'll be intrigued to see how they match up to more expensive options out there.

Sportful Bodyfit Team 15 socks

£12.00

Sportful Bodyfit Team 15 Socks.jpg

While you will of course be aware that the finest socks in the universe are obviously the classic road.cc argyle socks, these loud and proud options from Sportful are vying for second place with their Meryl Skinlife 'bacteriostatic' yarns and some part mesh sections to keep you cool. They're pretty long at 15cm, so if you favour ankle socks these ain't the ones for you...

Arriving at road.cc in 2017 via 220 Triathlon Magazine, Jack dipped his toe in most jobs on the site and over at eBikeTips before being named the new editor of road.cc in 2020, much to his surprise. His cycling life began during his students days, when he cobbled together a few hundred quid off the back of a hard winter selling hats (long story) and bought his first road bike - a Trek 1.1 that was quickly relegated to winter steed, before it was sadly pinched a few years later. Creatively replacing it with a Trek 1.2, Jack mostly rides this bike around local cycle paths nowadays, but when he wants to get the racer out and be competitive his preferred events are time trials, sportives, triathlons and pogo sticking - the latter being another long story.
