MP calls for all bikes to be fitted with a Bell!
What a total pratt!

The world has gone mad. How about a bell on a electric car first then maybe world hunger then we can get to bike bells!

Less harmful citrus degreaser is easy to find at £8 or less for 5 litres. Works ok for me, even diluted up to 4:1. Both paraffin and white spirit...

Like cyclists without a bell (or those with a bell that don't use it) are the devil's spawn and responsible for global carnage.
Hasn't that dimwit anything better to do? Yet another reason to doubt the idea of Parliament being a great institution of worthy representatives, it's just desperate attention-seekers playing to a sordid media.
Is that a new law? IThere was no bell fitted to my bike (TCR Advanced SL) when I bought it from a bike shop.
Mind though that on my current bike (Lyskey) I do have a bell (Spurcycle) which I find very useful for warning the horseys of my presence.
Might just have to stick a picture of Julian Lewis on the end of it, the bell that is.

I believe the law states that you must have a noise making device. That encludes the human voice.
According to the MP all bikes must be sold/supplied with a Bell but there is nothing to say you must keep in on
All bikes have to come with a bell when sold.
Which is wrong in itself.
On a shared space with pedestrians: You as the one with more kinetic energy slow down when approaching from behind and with respect to those in front having priority and take a course of action to take into account what someone might do and in which case you'll be so close that a verbal warning will suffice. A bell is often either ignored, not heard or taken as an intimidation/admonishment noise.
On a road in an urban environment a bell is worse than useless, either it won't be heard, it'll be ignored, it'll be taken as a sign you're angry/coming through just in the same way a horn on a motor is and if a ped steps out the bell/warning is likely to scatter them all over the place.
Just look at how well it worked out for Alliston when he shouted an audible warning, he was condemned/lambasted for that yet in the same scenario for a motor it is recommended in the HC. If he'd have used another audible warning such as a bell do you think the outcome would be any different, no, because she didn't probably hear it, I don't even think she saw Alliston she was so panicked at not being able to cross/other motors coming close to her standing in the middle of the road.
The MP is not just a misguided fool he a total end of a bell.
I assume he's also calling for a headphone and mobile phone ban so that all pedestrains can actually hear a bike bell being rung!
