1. Gorgeous steel bike marks Ernesto Colnago’s 87th birthday

Wowza! Ernesto Colnago is 87 years old today - and to mark the occasion the Colnago bicycle brand that he founded back in 1952 has unveiled the beautiful Colnago 87.

2. Glasgow to host all 13 UCI World Championships in 2023 for debut 'mega event' format

Glasgow has been unveiled as the first-ever host of a UCI World Championships that will bring together 13 separate disciplines in what promises to be a festival of cycling in 2023. The ‘mega event’ is a departure from the existing calendar that sees the events spread throughout the year, and the UCI’s intention is that it will be repeated in a different location every four years.

3. Professor likens anti-helmet advocates to climate change deniers

A professor at an Australian university has likened opponents of compulsory cycle helmet laws to “climate change deniers and the anti-vaccination groups” following publication of a study which claims that legislation introduced across the country almost three decades ago has resulted in cycling fatalities falling by almost half.

4. Colombian ex-pro cyclist arrested in Italy for dealing cocaine

Former pro cyclist Juan Pablo Valencia Gonzales has been arrested on suspicion of trafficking and dealing cocaine in Italy, with traces of the drug found in the seat tube of the mountain bike he was riding when he was stopped by Carabinieri.

7. Cycling is Britain's least favourite means of travel, survey finds

Cycling is the British public’s least favoured way to travel, according to a new survey which found that just four in ten people favoured getting around by bicycle, compared to 49 per cent who have an unfavourable view of it.

8. Video: Jeremy Vine gets (very) close pass from white van man - in a bus lane

Arriving at road.cc in 2017 via 220 Triathlon Magazine, Jack dipped his toe in most jobs on the site and over at eBikeTips before being named the new editor of road.cc in 2020, much to his surprise. His cycling life began during his students days, when he cobbled together a few hundred quid off the back of a hard winter selling hats (long story) and bought his first road bike - a Trek 1.1 that was quickly relegated to winter steed, before it was sadly pinched a few years later. Creatively replacing it with a Trek 1.2, Jack mostly rides this bike around local cycle paths nowadays, but when he wants to get the racer out and be competitive his preferred events are time trials, sportives, triathlons and pogo sticking - the latter being another long story.
