Wheel replacement

I came to a point where I will have to replace original wheels on my road bike. Since my budget is tight I was thinking of changing only one wheel at the time (for example instead of paying 1000 EUR for a set now, I would buy one for 700 EUR now and the other 700 EUR next year. My question is  if that makes sense and if it does which wheel do I replace first front or rear.

Thank you, Ales

In all honesty I'd buy both at the same time. You'll notice the difference more and will feel that the money has been justified. Also it might look weird otherwise 3

You could and should get a decent wheelset hand built for you, for that money, by a professional wheelbuilder. Get both at once.

I'd say it doesn't make sense, because you're not going to see much of a performance difference between a 700 EUR wheelset and a 1000 EUR one, and you're paying over the odds to buy two separate wheels.  Spend what you can afford on a wheelset, then next year the difference will pay for a different upgrade, or a trip.
