Electronic shifting for 1X 10-42 ???

New to the forum and looking for some help.

I am currently running a 1X SRAM Force 1 groupset. . 42 T chainring and 10-42 Cassette. This gives me a range of gear inches from 27 to 113 and is perfct for where I live and how I ride. The new Force 1 AXS  electronic group doesn't accomodate a cassette this big. Shimano has a new GRX Di2 group that comes close with an 11-42 but that gives up too much of the top end at only 103 gear inches. I need the 42/42 for climbing here and want the 10/42 as I like to keep it moving going downhill. I'll keep running the mechanical setup until I can find a reliable way to replicate this setup with an electronic rear deraullier. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Thanks Jimthebikeguy!

I've heard this now from a few people and feel good about the di2 shifters and the di2 xtr working with my current Sram Force 1crank and Sram 10-42.

Any reason I couldn't uuse the new Shimano Di2 GRX?? It's 11 speed and Shimano offers a matching 11-42 cassette.

I'm guessing if the XTR that they claim will only work with a minimum 11t cog (Shimano's smallest) that the GRX Di2  designed to work with their 11-42 should be a fine running on the Sram 10-42.

Any thoughts??

Mix di2 shifters with a di2 xtr rear mech. Keep your existing cassette and wheels and crankset.

You can use SRAM 10-42 cassette with any shimano di2 road or grx levers + xt or xtr 11 speed di2 rear derailleur. SRAM chainring works fine, you don't need shimano cranks.

Ah, I see what you mean now...42-50 is a bit of an extreme bailout gear! Bit of an arse about tit approach, but could you up your chain ring size so that smallest gear wasn't so low? I don't know what the biggest chain ring sram will say is doable with a 50T on the back, but something like a 46T will give you an even bigger top end (which granted, you may not actually want/need), and a lower bottom end (which, granted, you also may not actually want/need).

In the other hand, I could just be doling out bad advice.

Can you not run the Eagle AXS rear derailleur with the force shifters? My understanding was that the AXS range was all cross compatible?

Thanks Mathemagician! That is what I understand, too. All of the AXS is cross compatible but I believe it is all 12 speed. The SRAM 10-42 cassette that I use is 11 speed and the 3 new Cassette offerings in the AXS 12 speed don't give me nearly the range I need. Biggest cog is a 33. The 12 speed mountain bike cassette would work but that has a huge 50T cog. Problem is the electronic AXS stuff is there for road and mountain bike setups but a "gravel" or hilly 1x road set up is missing from their lineup.  The new Shimano Di2 GRX series is reallylimiting on the top end by starting with an 11t cog.  The 10t really is what makes 1x work on the road.

I believe I have almost your required set up using Di2:

ST-R785 levers, 105 5800 crank running 1x using a Wolf Toot narrow/wide 42T chainring, XT M8050 SGS Di2 rear mech, XT 11-42 cassette.

I'm running my own wheels, DT Swiss 350 straightpull CL road hub with 135/QR adaptors at the rear. You'd need a SRAM 10-42 cassette on an XD driver body, then you have what you want!

Thanks Stub! From what I have read the Shimano Di2, including the new GRX series designed for 1x setups, can only be programmed to run the 11T cog, not the 10T cog I am trying to run. It looks like only Sram has the 10-42 cassette. The new Shimano 11-42 is close but there is a really big differnce on the top end. 42x11= 103 gear inches and 42x10= 113 gear inches. I haven't found anybody running a Shimano Di2 with a SRAM 10-42 cassette.
