Okay, so you need to win big on the lottery to afford Cervelo’s revamped RCa, even though the price has dropped by a whole grand this year, making it now £6,500. It’s the Canadian company’s flagship model and features all their latest carbon fibre tech and engineering know-how, and handmade in California. There may be visual similarities with the previous version, but underneath the paint the carbon is all-new with higher stiffness and more compliance, so the company claims, with a 670g weight for a 54cm frame. The fork has gone on a diet and now weighs just 227g.

They may not be the most expensive power meters you can buy, but if they're good enough for Team Sky... the Stages power meters available at a range of prices, these are the top-end Dura-Ace models. Stages offers a very simple route into the world of power measurement, simply remove your existing non-driveside crank arm and replace with the Stages unit. Sync it with your compatible cycling computer, and you're all set. Ideal for the cyclist looking to take their training to the next level.

Rapha Classic Softshell Jacket £240

The Classic Softshell jacket is one of Rapha's original jackets, launched way back when the company founded in 2004, and has been constantly tweaked and improved over the years. It's a solidly dependable jacket for winter riding, with plenty of warmth and water resistance to cope with the worst weather you might dare to ride in, and packed with nice little details like the rear storm flap, reinforced shoulder panel and zipper underarm vents.

Fizik Aliante R1 saddle €250

Same classic and supremely comfortable shape as the previous Aliante, but with a fresh new look and lighter weight construction this year. The top-end model here boasting carbon fibre rails and base for a claimed 185g weight, 30g lighter than the old saddle.

Zipp 303 Firecrest Carbon Clincher wheels £2,300

No single component has more impact on the way a bike rides than wheels, and Zipp wheels are among the fastest available. Available in tubular or clincher, the rims use a rounded U-shaped rim that is claimed to make the wheels faster and more stable in windy conditions. They’re wide too, 26.4mm at the brake track and 45mm deep, and with Zipp’s patented dimples, which they reckon keeps the airflow attached to the rims at higher angles to reduce drag. So they're fast, and pretty light too, with a claimed weight of 1,570g.

For tracking all the data you could ever possibly need when you’re cycling, and for navigational duties, there are few better ways than a dedicated GPS computer. The new Garmin Edge 1000 is one of the most feature-packed currently available. The screen is bigger and the display sharper, and with Bluetooth you can sync it to your smartphone to receive notifications from your phone. This performance bundle includes three bike sensors to track heart rate, speed and cadence.

3T Aeronova LTD Stealth handlebar £299.99

Aero drop handlebars are in fashion at the moment as racers look to reduce as much drag as possible, and 3T launched the new Aeronova handlebar this year. The tops are aerodynamically shaped, they're UCI legal, and with regular compact drops borrowing the 127mm curve from the Ergonova bar, with a similar 6 degree flare at the ends. Cables are routed inside the handlebar to further reduce drag. These are the top-end carbon fibre bars with a 205g weight. Light and fast then.

Shimano Ultegra Di2 6870 11-speed groupset £1999.99

Treat your bike to brand spanking new groupset, and ditch those cables for wires. Shimano’s Di2 groupset has been staggeringly popular since launching several years ago and this second-generation Ultegra offering provides flawless performance in all conditions with long battery life and easy setup, and at half the price of Dura-Ace, with only a smidgen of a weight penalty.

Giro Factor ACC shoes £249.99

The stylish Factor ACC shoes from Giro have been put on a diet with a claimed 240g weight, and a revised carbon fibre sole has apparently contributed stiffness increase, so you can be sure when you’re sprinting or the finish line in a race, or chasing down a Strava segment, these shoes aren’t go to provide any energy sapping flex. Two Velcro straps and a new MR1 buckle secure the shoe on the foot and spread the load evenly, the Evofibre upper is perforated for summer ventilation, and they’re available in two colours. But really, look at them, aren't they the best looking shoes you've ever clapped eyes on?
