TdF bingo

According to the definitive road.cc poll a couple of months ago our favourite grand tour is the Giro. So let's not get too excited. But... Allez! Allez!

Among other things, I'm looking forward to the following.

  • Grips on jerseys being tightened (but never loosened)
  • The Tour may not be won on the slopes of [insert super-steep climb here] but it could easily be lost
  • Every stage winner being super-happy after a ride that was super-hard but their team was super-strong

After any of these I have to down an energy gel and go for a ride. Merveilleux!

Poor Pog, has to hang around ever single day to pick up his white jersey. Just give him the box!

"For goodness sake!" "Quite frankly" and "I'll be bound" from you-know-who.

A couple we've seen already this tour:

  • Cyclist shrugs off something which anyone else would think was an injury, gets back on his bike and rides off at 50km/h (Primos R popping his dislocated shoulder back in)
  • Team hotel dawn raid   2

'Thick wind' mentioned in the first three stages at least twice..

'The tour won't be won in the first week, but it can be lost' - exact phrase used by every different channel commentating at least once a day.

Carlton talking about a nice wine at least five times in the last two weeks.

Sean Kelly prounnuciations... they get worse when he gets excited

Bradley on a moto talking to (at) a rider in a French 'accent' (whether they are French or not)..

Gary Imlach's hair billowing around like it's doing a wasp dance.

Ooo so excited for it all, I can't wait!!

Had to down a shot for that one already.

Although in that case I think they literally meant there was a grippy road surface over the little bridge.

They've used it both ways in short order - to mean 'there's good grip there' and 'it's a bit dodgy because there's no grip'. That's why it's one of my favourite cycling phrases.

Carlton Kirby: "If they [the breakaway] start looking at each other here, they'll get caught!"

Bradley Wiggins: "He's just stopped for a wee."

Sean Kelly: "I think whoever gets to the finish of the stage with the most energy left will most likely be the winner today."

I feel a bit sorry for Sean Kelly - he usually gets asked for a comment just as Carlton Kirby has spent two minutes saying just about everything. Ned and David are 100 times better.

Usually he's chipping in to say "Well, er, no... not really..." after Kirby's spent ten minutes spouting nonsense.

'Tightening his shoes'.

A tactic guaranteed to win any sprint.

"Battle royale" from David Millar.

"Umm, yeah" from a Yates brother.

Commentators getting over-excited about an 'attack' as someone rides around the front to get to the other side of the peloton.
