British Cycling’s golden couple, Laura Trott and Jason Kenny, will have wedding rings as well as Olympic ones in their future after getting engaged over Christmas.
Trott, aged 22, took to Twitter on Christmas Day to say: "Merry Christmas everyone. I've had the most amazing couple of days thanks to @JasonKenny107 and the whole family,” adding the hashtag, #engaged.
The couple started seeing one another in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics, although they kept their relationship under wraps until after they had each won two gold medals – Kenny in the team and individual sprints, and Trott in the team pursuit and Omnium.
They were photographed together later in the Games at the Beach Volleyball Final – something that was inevitable given they were sitting immediately behind David Beckham.
However, Kenny, now aged 26, wouldn’t be drawn that evening on whether or not he and Trott were seeing one another.
According to a report on Mirror.co.uk at the time, as the pair exited the arena, he said: "These things are always very tricky after copious amounts of alcohol have been taken."
There's no news on when the pair might be looking to tie the knot - although over the next 18 months they will be kept busy enough by their preparations to defend their Olympic titles in Rio in Summer 2016.
