The NAHBS 2015 in pictures - the best bikes that scooped the awards

A photo gallery of the award winning bikes from the recent North American Handbuilt Bicycle Show

The North American Handbuilt Bicycle Show assembles some of the finest bicycle brands, frame builders and component manufacturers from around the world, well mostly from the US really, and the awards recognise the best frames and bikes across a range of categories.

Awards are subjective of course, he judges don’t have an easy task picking through the many fine submissions across the categories, which range from best road bike to best TIG frame, but the award winners here have certainly shown some stunning looking bikes. Let’s rattle through the awards for you.

Riding discipline division

This is the category for complete bikes and factors like paint and componentry choices are considered factors.

Best city bike/ Utility bike: Brodie Bikes

Best road bike: Repete Cycles

Best mountain bike: Retrotec Fat Bike

Best cyclocross bike: No. 22 Bicycle Company

Best tandem bike: Black Sheep Cycles

Best experimental bike: SyCip

Construction division

This is the best examples of unpainted frames, presented with a fork, headset and stem, to show the quality of workmanship, so good demonstrations of lug work, fillet brazing, carbon layup and TIG welded are what is being judged here.

Best lugged frame: DiNucci Cycles

Best TIG frame: Kent Eriksen Cycles

Best Carbon Layup: Alchemy Bicycles

Overall design division

These are complete bikes “judged with an eye toward the overall execution of the theme” across various themes, from best new builder to best in show.

Best new builder: LoveBaum Bicycles

Best artisan bike: Cykelmageren

Best finish: Shamrock Cycles / Michael Corby Cycles (painter)

People’s choice: Mars Cycles

President’s choice: Ron Sutphin / United Bicycle Institute

Best in show: Groovy Cycleworks

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes

Cyclemageren bike looks good for running over and bursting any footballs in the park. Maybe not so good for kerb hopping...

Agreed about the Cykelmageren bike, although I think a lot of the bikes at bespoked are nicer than these (not that there's anything wrong with any of these though)
