Register now for L'Etape London by Le Tour de France - and ride roads of last year's Stage 3

ASO teams up with Human Race for September's event and promises extras including "leg shaving experience"...

ASO and sportive organisers Human Race have launched a new event, L’Etape London by Le Tour de France, following much of the route of Stage 3 of last year’s Grand Depart of cycling’s biggest race.

It’s the second collaboration between the businesses, following May’s sportive, the Tour de Yorkshire Ride which coincides with the inaugural edition of that event.

The latest event takes place on Sunday 27 September with route options of 42, 92 and 117 miles available at respective costs of £40, £42 and £46.

It could be perfect for anyone who missed out on a Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 place, with that event heavily oversubscribed.

Places will go on sale a fortnight today, Monday 30 March, and are expected to sell out quickly. To find out more information and to pre-register, head over to the event website.

You can also guarantee yourself a place from today by committing to raise £100 for the event’s charity partner, Access Sport.

Ending with a lap of honour around Lee Valley VeloPark at the Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park in Stratford, East London, organisers promise a full Tour de France experience including:

Tour de France styled ride numbers

A leg shaving experience in the event village

A Tour de France museum and photo expo

Tour de France styled Stage Profile Bike Stickers

A Tour de France finish podium photo experience.

Five-time Tour de France winner Bernard Hinault said: “ I was sure that the fantastic popular enthusiasm which accompanied the Tour de France 2014 peloton would not vanish.

“It's a chance for the fans to challenge themselves on a route strongly inspired by the Tour de France 2014 stage 3.

“All those wanting to experience again the enthusiasm aroused by the Tour de France in last July will have to be present on L'Etape London by Le Tour de France.”

Human Race CEO Nick Rusling, added: “We are delighted that L’Etape London by Le Tour de France will join other already strong line-up of cycling events in the Human Race portfolio.

“We are confident that our experience and expertise will guarantee L’Etape London is an unrivaled rider experience.

“We are thrilled to join forces with ASO, an organisation with such important heritage, to bring a touch of the Tour de France magic to London.

“By supporting Access Sport riders can also play a part and help more disadvantaged and disabled young people through the power of sports like cycling.”

Definitely not closed roads. There's even reference to "quiet lanes". Yeah just you and Essex white van man annoyed by thousands of other cyclists. Sounds great. No chance of any aggro. As far as I can see, shaving someone else's legs is the only draw... but knowing my luck I'll end up doing a bloke.

So is it closed road? Nothing in the materials on the website appears to suggest this.

I struggle to see the point of paying for sportives without closed roads. I carry my own food with me. I have a Garmin, so time chips are not really a draw. I don't particularly need a medal.

Being able to ride without worrying about being close-passed by selfish and anti-social cagers? I'll pay money for that...

And as an added bonus, being able to bomb it through red lights (which normally I respect scrupulously) is ace!
