Manchester hit and run driver charged with causing cyclist's death by dangerous driving

Police appeal for witnesses

A man from Wythenshawe has been charged with causing the death of a cyclist by dangerous driving. Vicky Myres was hit while riding on Stockport Road in Timperley on Sunday. 26-year-old Gurparthab Ajay Singh has also been charged with failing to stop after a road traffic collision and failing to report a road traffic collision.

The Manchester Evening News reports that police were called just before 8am. Footage from the newspaper shows police cars lining the road outside Timperley Sports Club, near the junction with Wood Lane.

24-year-old Myres, from Flixton, was taken to hospital, where she sadly died.

A second man, aged 35, was also arrested but has since been released under investigation.

Police Constable Phil Shaw of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family at this difficult time.

“We have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident and I would ask that anybody with information contacts the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone that may have dash-cam or mobile footage of the incident.”

Anybody with information should contact the SCIU on 0161 856 4741, 101, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
