Safe cycling campaigner has her flowers 'decapitated'

Labour Councillor Jo Rigby said the incident was like something out of 'Midsomer Murders' ...

A cycling campaigner who was regularly abused by anti-cycling groups woke up to discover all the flowers in her garden had been 'decapitated'.

Broadcaster Jeremy Vine, who lives in Chiswick near cycleway nine, posted a picture of the 'mutilated' flowers on Twitter and said that the unnamed resident, had been 'relentless' in arguing for safe cycling.

Wandsworth Labour Active Travel and Transport Speaker Jo Rigby was appalled by the image, commenting 'It’s like a scene from Midsomer Murders'.

She even went so far as to create a crowdfunding page aiming to raise £100 to replace the woman's flowers.

On the page, Rigby wrote: "Front gardens are a gift to a neighbourhood.

"This woman created a beautiful garden for people passing to enjoy.

"Someone has decapitated her flowers and you don't f**k with flowers.

"We're buying her some new plants to show that there is a community of people supporting her."

While it is not clear who destroyed the flowers or if the incident has been reported to police, Vine noted that the woman had been particularly vocal in her condemnation of a cycling group who were attempting to raise £50,000 to get a new cycle lane ripped out.

The London Cycling campaign slammed the actions of the perpetrator/s as 'Disgraceful, appalling and shameful'.

good thing. I sometimes used flower too like gift for example or in other cases. The art of giving flowers is something that has been encouraged in every culture. A fresh bunch of blooms has easily been one of the top choices for gifts to give for centuries and it’s easy to see why.  Sometimes I use ottawa flower delivery stuff.

In the contrary this is fantastic news as this can only bring more awareness to her cause. The flowers did not die in vain.

This will be ignored by the rozzers cos cyclist.

Any other situation this would (correctly) be seen as harassment and stalking, and action taken.

God that's creepy - The poilice should really take things like this seriously as it is deliberate intimidation. What's the next level - pet cat nailed to the door ?

Boiled bunny or horse's head are more usual tactics.

Wow!  I knew these gammon cycle haters were deranged, but chopping off flower heads?  Despicable and disturbing, with its clear message for the woman.  I hope it hasn't affected her too much.

When I went to donate to help raise the £100 that Jo Rigby proposed, I was slightly taken aback, and delighted to see that it now stands at £1,065!  Great to see people putting their money where their mouth is, and showing how much support there is.

EDIT; a couple of hours later and it's over £1,600!

Another Edit: £2,042!

4:30pm; £2,402!  It is obvious that people are showing their support for her stance on providing for cyclists.  Well done everyone who has contributed.

Was thinking similarly. Amazing the effort some people will make to prevent others getting around safely or having residential streets without rat-running gettoutamyway drivers.

The mischievious part of me hopes that as a result of this intimidation tactic cyclists instigate some group rides. Big ones. Sportive-sized flocks of people on bikes everywhere, which should really annoy the haters.
