Dave lives at the top of a big hill and his office is at the bottom, so he's all in favour of a helping hand. Plus, e-bikes are fun! He's the editor of ebiketips and one of the founders of EBT's road cycling sister site, road.cc. He used to work on Cycling Plus and What Mountain Bike back in the day, and he's a former mountain bike bog snorkelling World Champion. Really.

I've had a Giant Road-E+1 Pro for one year now, & I am very impressed with the range & power. I have reservations about the weight (far too heavy), & the front forks are too stiff - giving a very harsh ride, with so much vibration that my hands go numb. I have fitted 50mm wide tyres & run them at low pressure to alleviate this problem to some extent. The bike is very stable, but I have found that the front disc rotor gets so hot on fast descents that it distorts & rubs on the pads; a bigger 180mm rotor has sorted this problem. Per your review, & even at the age of 75 I only use the lower two modes - & very occassionally the third mode on really steep climbs in The Dales. I am waiting for Giant to bring out a lighter version with carbon frame, smaller/lighter motor with only the lower three modes, & a lighter 500Wh battery (when power densities improve). The computer display is excellent, but we could have less wiring if the speed/distance was satellite-based (like Garmin), to dispense with the wheel sensor. Overall, a cracking bike - but the next version could be so much better. Neil
