Based on the picture of the damaged rim tape, it certainly looks like user error to me.  You used a tire lever on a super shallow rim and tore the tape causing the leak so yes it will leak.  It has nothing with the design of the wheels as you allude to but improper installation by the reviewer.

These were tested as they arrived, direct from Zipp/SRAM, both initially, and after returning - with rim strip and rim tape fitted beneath..

Yet another product released with basic quality issues. This seems to be a growing trend. Supply chain/COVID hangover?

Matt, you do know you're supposed to install a rim strip before the tape, right?

Zipp 303 S's are £900 aero, a few grams lighter and gravel rated.  Why would you buy these?
