Fizik Arione R3 large

£129.99

Fizik Arione R3 Large Road Saddle.jpg

The Arione R3 Large is longer than the majority of saddles, with a narrow nose that Fizik say is essential for helping the rider to move around in order to find their ideal 'power spot'. It has a composite glass co-injected nylon shell for optimal support and stiffness-to-weight, plus light alloy rails . Fizik introduced their Spine EVO concept to help customers choose the right saddle for them, and the Arione is a flat saddle that will suit those with high flexibility and pelvic rotation. road.cc's founder Tony Farrelly is currently finding a groove on this perch, with is final verdict coming soon...

Restrap bar bag holster

£74.98

Restrap Bar Bag Holster.jpg

Yorkshire-based Restrap supplied the frame bag that James Hayden used in his Transcontinental victory at the weekend, and this one is designed with bikepacking and off-road adventures in mind as a handlebar storage solution for repair kit and clothing. Restrap use the phrase 'carry everything' to summarise this holder, as it can fit a drybag with a capacity of up to 14L within its straps (the drybag isn't included). There are no mounts or screws, the bag attaches quickly to any bike using an adjustable magnetic buckle. For the price quoted you also get a foodpouch that magnetically clips on top, if you don't require it then the holder on its own is £54.99. All items are made in-house, with Restrap priding themselves on superior quality and attention to detail. Will the bar bag holster stand up as a genius storage solution? Our tester Mike Stead is loading one up right now, probably….

Lusso Active Aero bib shorts

£99.00

Lusso Active Aero Bib Shorts - riding.jpg

Hailing from Manchester, Lusso are one of the few cycle clothing brands to still make all their kit in the UK. This doesn’t have to mean a higher levy, however, and these top end shorts are pretty competitively priced compared to top end offerings from other imported brands. The fabric is chosen with aero gains in mind, made for pro level riders (there's even a pocket designed to fit a race radio inside). The bib fabric is a dry yarn polypropylene, and there's high 50+ UV ray protection throughout.

Speedsleev saddle pack

£29.99

Speedsleev Balistic Nylon Seatsleev Large.jpg

This unusual storage solution for puncture repair tools simply rolls up to pack your inner tubes, tyre levers and Co2’s together then straps around your saddle rails. Weighing in at 90g, the Speedsleev has secure velcro straps and is made with a premium 'ballistic' nylon, and is designed to be rock solid and immovable over all terrain. According to Speedsleev, it can take two road or MTB inner tubes, two Co2's, tyre levers, 1 mini pump and valve extenders. While it lacks weather protection, you can buy a rain cover that is available as a separate purchase. Our tester Mike Stenning has it wrapped around his steed at the moment...

Bont Riot+ road shoes

£149.99

Bont Cycling Riot Road cycling shoes .jpg

The Riot+ are described as an ‘entry level’ shoe by Bont, which may seem a little disconcerting being as they’re £150 – it’s a good job then that they’re also described as the most ‘technically advanced’ entry level shoe money can buy, which is a confusing pitch but we'll take it with a pinch of salt. As with all Bont's shoes, the Riot+ come with heat-mouldable insoles that you literally warm up in the oven to customise them for your own foot arch. A velcro strap at the thorat of the shoe and BOA IP1 dial at the top keeps the foot securely in place, and the shoe is constructed using the same process as the original, pricer Bont Riot. They're available in five different colours, ranging from all-black to a very loud 'mega crimson', so you're bound to find something to match your frame.

Arriving at road.cc in 2017 via 220 Triathlon Magazine, Jack dipped his toe in most jobs on the site and over at eBikeTips before being named the new editor of road.cc in 2020, much to his surprise. His cycling life began during his students days, when he cobbled together a few hundred quid off the back of a hard winter selling hats (long story) and bought his first road bike - a Trek 1.1 that was quickly relegated to winter steed, before it was sadly pinched a few years later. Creatively replacing it with a Trek 1.2, Jack mostly rides this bike around local cycle paths nowadays, but when he wants to get the racer out and be competitive his preferred events are time trials, sportives, triathlons and pogo sticking - the latter being another long story.

It reminds me of the time when we used to roll our spare tub in a beer towel and strap it under the saddle with a spare toe strap.  No one could seriously try to market such a thing.
