The sixth year of Wrynose or Bust, a charitable fund raising sportive that to date has raised nearly £30,000 for our charities. We offer three routes, the first being 188km (117 miles); 115km (72 miles) and 60km (37 miles).
Starting and finishing at Halton Army Training Camp near Lancaster, the long route tracks through the hills of the southern Lake District, taking the long climb over Grizebeck, the steady 14 mile climb from sea level up the Duddon valley to the seriously tough 25% ascent of Wrynose Pass (393m or 1281 ft) with a 30% descent into Little Langdale before continuing to Hawkshead, Grizedale Forest and Haverthwaite. Continuing up the serious haul of Bigland Hill to High Newton before descending the technically tricky Tow Top, returning to Halton via Sunnybank.
We offer some cracking countryside around North Lancashire and Cumbria and any net surplus goes to our chosen charities. The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Lancaster and a few cycling friends and this year we are mainly supporting Unique Kidz.
We have car parking at the camp, toilets, event timing, feed stations, marshalls, hot food at the finish and showers. We have two recovery vehicles and have the support of RAYNET to help with communications.
